A journey to a wonderful state of Queensland can not be complited without a visit to its capital - Brisbane. It is the third largest city in Australia and has a lot to offer. It is abundant with street artists, museums, music theatres and peaceful parklands.
The CBD is very compressed and can be easily explored on foot. If you are after some shopping spree make sure you will pay a visit to the famous Queen Street Mall. It is a nice place, closed to cars, which makes a walk enjoyable. The CBD itelf is surrounded by meandering Brisbane River. One of the banks was transformed to the City Botanical Garden. It is an excellent place to rest from the heat of the day and relax in wonderful green surroundings. From there you can see, across the river, the clifs of Kangaroo Point and a distant landmark - the Story Bridge.
Some of the other places worth visiting can be found on the South Bank of the river. This area is a lovely parkland which boarders some of the most popular cultural venues of the city such as Queensland Performing Arts Center or Exhibition Halls. However, the best part is an artificial beach and a pool situated right in the middle of South Bank Parklands. It is a great place for a lazy afternoon. The swim in the lagoon will reward you with fantastic views of CBD towering across the river. You can find heaps of places to eat or enjoy a drink around there too.
If you are in town for a while or you just need to stock up your supplies, it would be a great idea to visit West End saturday market. It is a great place for foodies and also a good spot to buy cheap, organic, freash veg and fruit. It is very popular with locals and there is a good reason for it.
Another place not to be missed is Mount Coot-tha. At the bottom of the hill you will find a specious botanical garden where you can admire the collection of both native and foreign tropical plants. But what is really spactacular is the view from the top of the mountain! You can see the entire city just like from aboard the plane. There is a restaurant and a cafe at the top as well. You can choose to drive up there, take a bus or enjoy a hike through the forest. We would recommend the third option!
In the western suburbs you can find the amazing Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. This place is world's oldest and largest koala sanctuary. It this location you can get up close to native wildlife, hand feed kangaroos, or lorikeets, see a cossowary or even have a photo of you taken holding a koala. You can participate in a variety of activities and enjoy shows and talks performed by the staff. The sooner in the morning you get here the better as kangaroos sleep through most of the day. If you want to walk among them and find these creatures eager to have a meal it would be the best for you to visit before 11 am. Some of the animals walk freely and the others are hold in rather small cages which is a litlle sad. Afterall nothing makes you as happy as spotting a widlife in its natural habiat.
To sum up you should know that Brisbane is situated roughly an hour drive from superb beaches of Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. That it is busy and metropolitan but not so overwhelming and crowded. With that said, it must be ovious by now that it is a perfect getaway to start your ultimate trip up the Eastern Coast, just like we did!
Podróż do cudownego stanu Queensland nie była by kompletna bez odwiedzenia jego stolicy - Brisbane. Jest to trzecie największe miasto Australii, ma ponad 2,3 mln mieszkańców i wiele do zaoferowania. Jest to wiele ulicznych artystów, muzeów, teatrów muzycznych i cichych parków.
Centralny Dystrykt Biznesowy jest bardzo skompresowany i łatwo można go przemierzyć na piechotę. Jeśli interesują Cię małe zakupy to zdecydowanie musisz odwiedzić słynne Queen Street Mall. Cała ulica jest zamknięta dla ruchu samochodowego, przez co spacer po okolicy jest całkiem miły. Centrum jest otoczone przez meandrującą rzekę o tej samej nazwie co miasto. Jedno z nabrzeży zostało przeobrażone w Miejski Ogród Botaniczny. To doskonałe miejsce na odpoczynek od żaru dnia i na relaks pośród zieleni. Patrząc stamtąd na drugi brzeg rzeki można zobaczyć spadziste clify Kangaroo Point i odległą, rozpoznawalną sylwetkę mostu Story Bridge.
Inne miejsca warte odwiedzenia znajdują się na południowym nabrzeżu. Ta okolica znana jest z malowniczego parku, który graniczy z głównymi obiektami kulturalnymi miasta takimi jak Queensland Performig Arts Center i hale wystawowe. Jednak najlepsza część parku to sam jego środek, gdzie znajduje się sztuczna plaża i publiczny basen. To świetne miejsce na spędzenie leniwego popołudnia. Przepłynięcie się w lagunie będzie nagrodzone wspaniałymi widokami na wieżowce znajdujące się po przeciwnej stronie rzeki. W pobliżu jest również wiele kawiarni i restauracji.
Jeśli jesteś w mieście nieco dłużej, lub po prostu potrzebujesz zrobić zapasy na podróż, znakomitym pomysłem jest odwiedzenie sobotniego targu w dzielnicy West End. To dobre miejsce dla wielbicieli jedzenia i dla tych, którzy chcą kupić tanie, świeże i organiczne produkty. Jarmark jest bardzo popularny wśród miejscowych i jest ku temu dobry powód.
Kolejnym miejscem, którego nie można przegapić jest góra Coot-tha. U podnóża wzniesienia znajduje się przestronny ogród botaniczny, gdzie można podziwiać kolekcję zarówno miejscowych jak i zagranicznych roślin tropikalych. Natomiast widok ze szczytu góry jest naprawdę spektakularny. Całe miasto widać jak na dłoni, niemal jak z pokładu samolotu. Na szczycie jest też kawiarnia i restauracja. Możesz wybrać czy wjechać tam samochodem, autobusem czy może wejść o własnych siłach szlakiem przez las. Polecamy tę ostatnią opcje!
Na zachodnich przedmieściach znajduje się Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Jest to nastarsze i największe schronisko dla koali na świecie. Możesz tam podejść niezwykle blisko słynnych australijskich zwierząt, nakarmić z ręki kangury albo papużki, zobaczyć kazuara, lub nawet mieć zrobione zdjęcie z koalą wtuloną w Twoje ramiona. Możesz wziąć udział w różnych zajęciach, oglądać przedstawienia i słuchać wykładów prowadzonych przez strażników parku. Im wcześniej rano dotrzesz na miejsce tym lepiej, ponieważ kangury przesypiają większą część dnia. Jeśli chcesz przechadzać się pomiędzy nimi i karmić je z ręki to najlepiej odwiedzić schronisko przed 11:00. Niektóre zwierzęta chodzą swobodnie po wybiegu, podczas gdy inne mają relatywnie małe klatki, co jest dosyć smutne. Naszym zdaniem nie ma nic lepszego niż dostrzec dzikie zwierzę w jego naturalnym środowisku.
Podumowując, powinniście widzieć, że Brisbane jest oddalone o mniej więcej godzinę jazdy od cudownych plaż Gold Coast i Sunshine Coast. Jest to duże miasto o metropolitarnym charakterze, a jednoczenie nie wydaje się tak zatłoczone i przygniatająco wielkie. To czyni z niego doskonałe miejsce do rozpoczęcia super podróży w górę wschodniego wybrzeża Australii i my dokładnie tak zrobiliśmy!
